Starsinger: Leslie Fish fan recordings

In October 2023 and March 2024, K.J. Joyner visited Leslie for over a month of informal fan archival recording and preservation. Going through Leslie Fish’s personal filkbook, they created rough archival field recordings of each song that wasn’t widely available.

This fan fundraising project provides recordings of Leslie singing, and often speaking to, over 200 songs — 12 hours of recordings. It’s an audio companion to the Leslie Fish filkbook PDF. (320K MP3 format)

Where possible, we’ve also included a few songs by her close friends, such as Don Simpson, John Creasey, and Christa Landon.

• THESE ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL RECORDINGS. No professionals were involved in any aspect of the making of this project. 
• THESE ARE THE LEAST POLISHED RECORDINGS OF LESLIE EVER MADE AVAILABLE. Leslie is completely unrehearsed. And she’s singing songs she often hasn’t sung in decades — sometimes even reconstructing the melodies while singing them. 
• THESE ARE STRICTLY ARCHIVAL-GRADE, FIELD RECORDINGS INTENDED TO CAPTURE LESLIE’S MELODIES. This is not an “album”. Expect many performance flubs.
• Content absolutely includes songs that are NSFW, and which some may find provocative or “offensive”. We have intentionally preserved the widest swath of Leslie’s historical songwriting and commentary.
