King of Filk — Quentin Long (1993 cassette tape)

Quentin Long was an active member of the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Area filk communities. His contributions to the community were eclectic.

He organized and MC’d the Totally Tasteless & Tacky Revue (at ConChord) — capturing a type of filk that you wouldn’t see today — bawdy performances, where the stage act was as much of the performance as the song.

He also wrote prolifically and uniquely quirkily for 1980s filk zines such as The Filking Times and The Philk Fee-Nom-Ee-Non.

He was also a generous spirit. As one example of many, he always kept filkers fed with delicious Dutch baby pancakes at filk events. When Kathy Mar hadn’t recorded a new project in decades, Quentin funded her “Bridge” project with Jeff Bohnhoff.

Sadly, Quentin Long passed away on July 6th, 2025. He also unexpectedly left us several hundred unsold copies of this cassette tape (produced by Chrys Thorsen), which had been storage for 30+ years.
